Walaupun kecil, fungsinya amat besar dalam memastikan prestasi enjin berjalan lancar. Ia bertanggungjawab menghasilkan percikan api yang menyalakan campuran udara dan bahan api dalam kebuk pembakaran enjin. Tanpa percikan ini, enjin tidak akan menyala.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Palam pencucuh diperbuat daripada logam tahan panas dan bahan seramik yang berfungsi sebagai penebat. Di bahagian hujungnya terdapat elektrod yang mengalirkan voltan tinggi untuk menghasilkan percikan api. Palam pencucuh yang baik memastikan pembakaran berlaku dengan sempurna, menjimatkan bahan api, dan mengurangkan pengeluaran asap serta pencemaran.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kebanyakan palam pencucuh perlu diganti setiap 20,000 hingga 100,000 kilometer bergantung pada jenis dan spesifikasi kenderaan. Palam pencucuh yang sudah haus atau kotor boleh menyebabkan enjin menjadi semput, susah dihidupkan, peningkatan penggunaan petrol dan kuasa enjin yang menurun. Oleh itu, penyelenggaraan berkala dan pemeriksaan palam pencucuh amat penting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Terdapat pelbagai jenis palam pencucuh di pasaran seperti tembaga, platinum, dan iridium, dengan kelebihan dan jangka hayat yang berbeza.
